Leo #DOOZMUSE Diary: Erin Dykstra

Posted by Dooz Admin on

Welcome to #DOOZMUSE Diary, where we spotlight friends of the DOOZ community to take a glimpse at their lives through an astrological lens. This week we spoke with Erin Dykstra, a Leo.

What are your big 3 — Sun, Moon, and Rising signs?

I’m a Leo Sun, Cancer Moon, and Scorpio rising, which, if you’ve met me, makes total sense. In a word: emotional.

What do you do for work? Does your sign play into your career at all?

I’m a freelance social media + creative consultant. My sun is in my 10th house of Leo, so I feel the need to distinguish myself through goals + success. For me, those have always been professional goals, so it’s nice to see the success! I think a “behind-the-scenes” job seems very unLeo-like, but I still love to get in front of the camera and have fun on my personal account. ;)

What’s a typical morning look like for you? How does astrology play into that?

I’ve been taking a more relaxed approach to my daily routine during quarantine. I think it’s so important to take care of ourselves and go back to living more mindfully, especially right now.

I’m a fire sign – I. Love. Freedom. I really take my time in the morning. I don’t set an alarm, but my dog Sunnie usually wakes me up much earlier than I’d like. We go outside and then she comes back into bed to cuddle for another hour. (My favorite part of the day!) I’ve had to refocus some energy on just taking care of myself - raising a puppy is no joke! Once I’m up I make decaf coffee, wash my face, take my CBD + antidepressant* and then we go for a walk. Then I’ll either settle in to get some work done or jump into some personal tasks. I’ve tried to create a set work start-time but it doesn’t stick! Sometimes I start at 9am, sometimes it’s 1pm.

What does the work day look like for you? Does your zodiac sign help you out?

My work day is a little different each day, which works great for me because Leo’s don’t do so well with boundaries and order. I use multiple task tracking apps, a Pomodoro timer, and a strict google cal schedule but that goes out the window daily and I end up going back to my notebook full of checklists (both personal and professional). I do what I want to do, when I feel like doing it, and I don’t allow myself to feel guilty for working in a flow that’s considered different from the norm.

Do you gravitate towards certain signs as friends/collaborators/partners?

LOL. My partners are almost always fire signs. I’m single though so maybe I should switch it up. I have a lot of Virgos in my life too but I’m not too sure what that means.

How, if at all, does astrology impact your daily life? Do you read your horoscope?

I use astrology daily but don’t live by it. I fully believe in the science of it, but we’re all so different, I think we can interpret it in so many different ways. It’s nice to check my astrology apps and listen to my Leo Today podcast and meditate on the messages for a few minutes to try and find a common theme for the day.

What’s your favorite thing to do on the weekends?

It’s been hard to define weekdays and weekends during quarantine, so I’ve started to really turn off on weekends. No work, minimal social use, and lots of rest. My favorite thing to do is meet some friends at the park for  some socially-distant sunshine and outdoor time.

DOOZ partnered with Actually Curious to get to know Erin a little bit deeper. The following are a few questions from their thoughtful, question-based card game:

When do you feel most secure?

When I’m really happy. This usually includes friends, pasta, good wine, and lots of laughs.

What makes you unique?

I feel like I have a very chill but positive vibe that makes it easy for me to get along with everyone.

What is guaranteed to bring you happiness?

Taco Bell.

To wrap up the Actually Curious portion of this interview, a featured Leo question: If someone gives you $100 and tells you to Treat Yo Self, what do you do?

I’d book a massage asap!

Current playlist/songs on repeat?

My Spotify is always open. I start my day with my personalized Daily Wellness playlist which includes the Leo Today podcast, some great morning bops, and the Wake Up / Wind Down podcast. My music mood changes every week or so, but right now here’s what I’m loving:

Playlists
Big Wild - 6’s to 9’s radio
Serotonin by Spotify
The High Fidelity Official Playlist (still not over the cancellation)
Pollen by Spotify
Leo Cosmic Playlist by Chani Nicholas - I don’t know how she does it but she DOES IT

I’m also working on a playlist for my birthday coming up and I’m so psyched to finish it - it’s a vibe!

What’s your one beauty secret?

Take care of yourself on the inside and it will show on the outside. Real talk though, I’ve been consistent with a routine incorporating chemical exfoliants a few times a week and I've seen a drastic difference in my skin.

How do you style the DOOZ Sweater-T?

I’ve always loved an oversized look, and now I’m really embracing the slouch. My quarantine look is sweats with layered jewelry so I feel more put together. I love clothes but always steer more understated, jewelry is what really makes me feel like myself. This sweater is equal parts cozy + cool and it just feels good to wear.

What are your favorite DOOZ pieces? Which color(s) do you gravitate towards, even if they’re not signs in your chart.

The Tie Dye Bandana and the Celeste Bag in Leo + Aries. Fire signs baby! I wear mostly neutrals but if I’m wearing color, it’s usually a red.
