This week we chatted with Aries muse and photographer, Kim Carnes, about friends who are more like sisters, the importance of saying "no," and finding happiness within herself.
What are your big 3 – Sun, Moon, and Rising signs?
I am an Aries Sun, Capricorn Moon, and Cancer Rising.
3 adjectives to describe you?
Creative, Passionate, Independent.
Where do you live/where are you from?
I am from Atlanta, Georgia and go between living in Kennesaw, Georgia and New York.
What do you do for work? Does your sign play into your career at all?
Photography and yes! My Aries side is what makes me bold and a risk taker. Starting my photography from nothing could have gone nowhere, but I put myself out there and made a name for myself.
Do you gravitate towards certain signs as friends/collaborators/partners?
I honestly gravitate towards all different signs. It is interesting though how my best friend is a Cancer considering how Aries and Cancer signs are not the most compatible.
What’s a typical morning look like for you? How does astrology play into that?
I am a stubborn Aries who does not like to get out of bed unless I have a really fun day planned. However, I have two puppies so I get up around 7AM and watch them until everyone is awake. I then have some breakfast and chill for a bit until I go upstairs to do my school work.
How, if at all, does astrology impact your daily life? Do you read your horoscope?
I think astrology plays a big part in who I am and how I go about my day. I love to read my horoscope every day if I remember.
What does the work day look like for you? Does your zodiac sign help you out?
I am still in school, so my photography is part time for now. I definitely make a ton of lists for everything though. My Aries sign makes me controlling which makes sense, because I like to have everything planned out perfectly.
DOOZ partnered with Actually Curious to get to know Kim a little bit deeper. The following are a few questions from their thoughtful, question-based card game:
When do you feel most secure?
I feel most secure when I am with my best friends. They are like sisters to me, so I love that I am able to be 100% myself.
What makes you unique?
I am involved in many creative outlets, the biggest one being dance. I have been dancing since I was two and I went up to New York at the beginning of this year to pursue it professionally. As a result of taking dance so seriously, I became an online student my Sophomore year. This gave me time to focus on my passion for it even more!
What is guaranteed to bring you happiness?
Friends and family. However, I have been working extra hard to find happiness within myself even more.
To wrap up the Actually Curious portion of this interview, a featured Aries question: The perfect crime is never solved. What crime would you totally commit, if you knew you'd never get caught?
I think I would want to break into a designer store with my friends, put together amazing outfits, and run all around the city in them.
What books are on your nightstand right now?
“F*ck No!” by Sarah Knight. It is very fitting for my sign, because it teaches you how to say no and put yourself first.
Current playlist/songs on repeat?
Any sort of indie/acoustic fall playlist.
What’s your one beauty secret?
I have learned the hard way that less is more when it comes to face makeup. When I use just a little concealer under the eyes and some pressed powder all over, my skin looks nice and natural. Don’t get me wrong though, I love playing it bold with the eyes!
How do you unwind/decompress at the end of the day?
I like to watch YouTube and Tik Tok before I go to bed which I know is not really winding down lol. I do try to read as much as possible at night too. I am especially drawn to self care books right now, so I like to end my days with that.
Are you watching/have you recently watched anything you’d recommend?
I recently finished Selling Sunset on Netflix which is awesome if you like interior design and reality.
What’s your favorite thing to do on the weekends?
I love to go to lunch or dinner and do photoshoots with my friends. We are all very creative people involved in the arts, so it is a lot of fun to create with them!
Any given day is incomplete without…?
How do you style the DOOZ Bandana?
I love bandanas in my hair! I think it looks so cute and can add a lot to an outfit. I definitely want to try wearing it as a shirt too!
What are your favorite DOOZ pieces? Which color(s) do you gravitate towards, even if they’re not signs in your chart.
I absolutely love the Celeste bag. It is unique in its shape, but it is also a great everyday basic. I gravitate toward the Aries, Libra, and Capricorn colors.
