Welcome to #DOOZMUSE Diary, where we spotlight friends of the DOOZ community to take a glimpse at their lives through an astrological lens. This week, we spoke with boss babe Meezy Gaspard, a Cancer.
What are your big 3 – Sun, Moon, and Rising signs?
So my Sun is in Cancer, my Moon is Aries and my Rising is in Capricorn. But I was also born on the Cancer/Leo Cusp (The Cusp of Oscillation) so I also have the tendencies and fiery aspects of a Leo. Finding that balance between my calm nature all while wanting to be high energy can be quite conflicting at times; but learning is an everyday process so it can only get better from here and beyond.
3 adjectives that describe you?
Empathetic, Passionate, Dedicated.
Where do you live / where are you from?
Currently I reside in Brooklyn, but was born in Queens and partly raised in Mexico with my younger brother. My mother is Mexican and my Dad is Haitian. So while my mother was completing her degree in the US, she felt it was important for my brother and I to be raised around family so we were sent down there for about 2-3 years before coming back to the States.
What do you do for work? Does your sign play into your career at all?
I’ve always been in industries that cater to the needs of others. Whether it was retail, quality assurance, education, hospitality—I was there. I believe a Cancer's openness to help others is what made working in these industries easy for me. Now with COVID changing a lot of my perspectives, I have started my LLC and am in the process of running my own business and being my own boss!
What's a typical morning look like for you? How does astrology play into that?
I’ve been sleeping very well recently so my mornings start at 8am. Being an intuitive sign I keep a dream diary by my nightstand. Since young I’ve always had strange dreams, so when it happens I try to jot down whatever I can remember to analyze later/look for signs. After I follow with listening to my favorite Astrology Podcast and ready myself for a meditation session. I read a while back that those on the Cancer/Leo cusp can achieve harmony between the two through meditation. I begin and end my meditation session with affirmations in hopes that the universe listens and responds. Afterwards I prepare myself a papaya leaf tea and knock out emails/business related things until it’s smoothie time.
What does the work day look like for you? Does your zodiac sign help you out?
Having my Rising in Capricorn I believe is what pushes me to strive for greatness when it comes to work or any task at hand. Capricorns are known for being ambitious, persistent, disciplined, practical and most importantly realistic. My Sun in Cancer can at times afflict me in a sense where my head can be in the clouds and I run with my imagination and emotions. Having both really helps me bring out a balance when it comes to my work days.
Recently starting a business, I begin with a checklist of what I’ve got to do for the day (mailing orders, checking inventory, creating content etc). Then I follow the checklist on my calendar of the everyday things I have to do in order to keep myself right mentally (painting, cooking, reading etc).
How, if at all, does astrology impact your daily life? Do you read your horoscope?
Astrology has changed my life. In my experience, astrology has done nothing but help me along my journey to self discovery and given me nothing but help and strength, so I either read or listen to my horoscope everyday. I start my mornings with my “Cancer Today” podcast on Spotify and end the day with a reading on my Co-Star app!
Do you gravitate towards certain signs as friends/collaborators/partners?
For some reason I get along really well with Aries, Pisces and Virgos. I’m thinking it might be because my moon is in Aries, I myself being a water sign and my Rising is an earth sign. But overall I try not to judge someone solely based on their sign; naturally we are all more than one sign and have been in different environments growing up so all those factors can affect a personality. Sometimes it’s just better to find those who you connect with rather than seeding people out solely based on their astrological sign.
DOOZ partnered with Actually Curious to get to know Meezy a little bit deeper. The following are a few questions from their thoughtful, question-based card game:
When do you feel most secure?
When I’m in my home surrounded by my loved ones.
What makes you unique?
My upbringing most definitely. I was very lucky to be raised in another country and have a different experience of the world through Mexican culture. Having that, then changing the lens and growing up in the suburbs of Long Island where I was given the opportunity to expand my mind through education and some life changing trips in elementary + high school. It’s these circumstances that allowed my traits as a Cancer to flourish. I was able to be goofy, compassionate, loving and imaginative and not be judged for it or forced to change or hide who I was.
What is guaranteed to bring you happiness?
Having pure intentions and lots of love and empathy for others in your heart. When your intentions are pure (not having malice or an intent to sabotage/hurt others) you can live your life truly in an unapologetic way. And if you can access your compassion, love and empathy for others, you will receive nothing but that in return.
To wrap up the Actually Curious portion of this interview, some featured sign questions:
Cancer: Who was your childhood best friend? Where are they now?
(Sun in Cancer) My childhood best friend was this spunky, imaginative girl named Debbie. Hilariously we just became roommates not too long ago so we’re still besties to this day!
Aries: The perfect crime is never solved. What crime would you totally commit, if you knew you'd never get caught?
(Moon in Aries) Hmmm, this is a good question. I think I would do a good ol’ Oceans Eleven/Mission Impossible type of vibe and get together with a crew to steal some jewels and money! Help a couple people along the way.
Capricorn: They say it takes 10,000 hours to become an expert. If you could instantly complete 10,000 hours of one skill, what would it be?
(Rising in Capricorn) Being fluent in Korean!
What books are on your nightstand right now?
The Seven Necessary Sins for Women and Girls by Mona Eltahawy and The Holistic Home: Feng Shui for Mind, Body, Spirit, Space by Laura Benko.
Current playlist/songs on repeat? Current song on repeat?
Emergency by Vince feat. Zion T. I love Korean music so right now I mostly listen to my KBops playlist on Spotify.
What's your one beauty secret?
Use moisturizer instead of primer for a more natural look. Trust me, y’all will thank me later.
How do you style the DOOZ Sweater-T?
Style for me always depends on my mood, so if I’m feeling girly I’d prob style it with a skirt and cute accessories—grungy/tomboyish I’d add chains to baggy pants and throw on my fav bucket hat and sneakers!
How do you unwind/decompress at the end of the day?
Nothing helps me unwind more than just bumping my favorite songs and having a mini-Meez concert in my room. It’s either that or watching my favorite shows!
Are you watching / have you recently watched anything you'd recommend?
I am very fond of movies/shows in general so if y’all are looking for something to watch I can definitely recommend something in any category. Currently I’m into the docuseries “(UN)WELL” the anime “Food Wars” and the second season of “The Umbrella Academy!”
What's your favorite thing to do on the weekends?
I love being around bodies of water, so if possible I like to hit the beach or walk down by parks in Brooklyn that are close to the water.
Any given day is incomplete without...?
Laughter! Giggles, belly ache laughs, snorts and all. It’s so good for the soul.
What are your favorite DOOZ pieces? Which color(s) do you gravitate towards, even if they're not signs in your chart?
I love bright colors so I gravitate towards Gemini’s color scheme the most. Pink + purple happen to be some of my fav colors to wear so Libra’s colors also stand out for me! My favorite DOOZ pieces have to be the Cancer bandana and the Gemini Céleste bag.
