Astrology is all about the number 12. There are 12 zodiac signs, 12 months in a calendar year and 12 houses, and each astrological sign is paired with a house. In this series we’re going to go over all of the Houses in order to help you better understand your birth chart, starting with House 1.
House 1 is one of the most significant Houses (although they are all equally as important) but this is the start of your birth-chart. You will know what sign you have in your first house simply by knowing your rising/ascendant sign.

ARIES IN THE FIRST HOUSE
Having Aries in the first house is a pretty powerful placement. It's important that you know your own limits and try your best not to over exhaust yourself. You're not afraid to tackle new things and you come off as confident to the world.
TAURUS IN THE FIRST HOUSE
Having Taurus in your first house means that how you present yourself to the world is very important to you, you likely have a good sense of style as your first house is represented by the planet Venus. You come off as put together (even when you’re absolutely dying on the inside).
GEMINI IN THE FIRST HOUSE
Having Gemini in your first house means you come off as a chameleon to the world. It’s hard for someone who doesn’t know you to guess your rising sign. You have a lot of different interests, and it's hard for you to stick to one thing for a long period of time. You get bored easily and it doesn’t take long before you’re onto the next thing.
CANCER IN THE FIRST HOUSE
Having Cancer in your first house means that it takes you a while to warm up to new people. You may come off introverted and prefer to keep to yourself in new environments and situations. Having Leo in your first house means you shine as bright as the sun when you walk into a room. You’re not afraid to have eyes on you (even if you try to say otherwise), you enjoy a bit of attention. You most likely enjoy putting effort into your appearance and if you’re more on the introverted side you’re good at hiding it.
Having Virgo in your first house means that you are always put together, even when you feel like you’re falling apart (don’t worry, no one can tell). You feel your best when things around you are organized, and you’re really good at helping others.

If you have Libra in your first house, you come off as relaxed and have a chill approach to life. You approach things with a level head even if you feel overwhelmed. You have the ability to make everyone feel like everything is under control (even when it's not). ***
SCORPIO IN THE FIRST HOUSE
If you have a Scorpio in your first house you may come off intimidating, and have strong eyes. People have a hard time reading you when they first meet you, and they may be confused about how you feel about them. If you have Sagittarius in your first house traveling and freedom are two very important things to you. People are attracted to your free willed nature and overall fun personality. You’re open minded and willing to try anything at least once, this can often be seen in your sense of style.
